An ACTE II student singing "Beginning to See the Light" by Duke Ellington, Harry James, Johnny Hodges, and Don George.

"Simply remarkable and a little breathtaking" - Roger Friedman, Fox News

What a week for Rosie’s Broadway Kids! The joint was jumpin’ at the New 42nd Street studios during the week of July 30 as our students, ages 10-15, performed to rave reviews. In a show conceived by the artistic staff of Rosie’s Broadway Kids, students blew the audience away with a series of pieces inspired by the Harlem Renaissance. Rosie participated all week, directing and coaching the students as they prepared for their performances, which included show-stopping pieces like “That’s How You Jazz,” a spirited tap solo, and the remarkably soulful “Standin’ in the Rain Blues.”

For four weeks leading up to last week’s performance, 58 students participated in ballet, tap, theater dance, voice, music, and drama classes, in addition to rehearsing pieces for the final show. Guest teachers included Arcell Cabuag from Ronald K. Brown Dance Company, Evidence; Stanley Wayne Mathis of Broadway’s The Lion King, Jelly’s Last Jam, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown; and a guest appearance by Mable Lee, dancing star of stage and screen in the 30’s and 40’s.

RBKids also grabbed the attention of a few notable Broadway greats who attended Friday’s dress rehearsal including Joanne Worley, Tom Hulce, Michael Mayer and the legendary Chita Rivera.
